Urn of Ravalos on IGMS

Posted by rwday on March 3, 2009

My story, “Urn of Ravalos,” is up on the latest edition of Intergalactic Medicine Show.  Issues cost $2.50, and you get access not only to my story, but to 4 others, including one by Peter Beagle.  That’s a bargain, and it allows this market to pay pro rates.  This is a good thing.

An even better thing?  Each story has an illustration, and mine is gorgeous.  It’s done by an artist named James Owen.  I’d not heard of him before, but he’s obviously got a LOT of talent, and he’s perfectly captured the feel of my story which is about a young mage turned pirate whose past catches up with him.  I’ve copied the image in below, though it may take me a few edits to get it to show up right.

Author Copies!

Posted by rwday on March 3, 2009

I got home from the hair salon and there was a booky-looking box on my porch.  My author’s copies of A Strong and Sudden Thaw plus a bonus, a copy of Steve Berman’s Vintage, which is one of those books I’ve been meaning to order for a long time.  It’s been a very yucky day, so I think I’m going to cuddle up with it and lose myself in a ghost story.  Thank you, Steve!

I’m really impressed with the production value of Thaw, btw.  The print is easy to read and clear, the binding seems strong.  It’s a bit taller than the Iris edition and thinner, which I think is a good thing from a sales point of view.   There really is nothing like holding your book in your hand.  The only experience I can relate it to is the first time you hold your baby.  And in some ways, it’s even better – your book is almost certainly not going to pee or vomit on you.  😉

The plan, such as it is.

Posted by rwday on March 2, 2009

I had a pretty productive weekend, writing-wise.  I got through Chapter 12 of the edits, though now the hard part starts.

I want to use this blog as a place to work out problems with the book, but I recognize that a lot of people are spoiler-phobic, so I’ll try and put any spoilers behind WordPress’s version of a cut.
